The Land of Curiosities: Adventures in Yellowstone, 1871-1872
by Deanna Neil

Welcome to the first tale in a series of adventures. Join the Clifton family as they descend into the "infernal" regions of Yellowstone the year that it is declared the world's first national park. Encounter bison, meet prospectors, travel with railroad men, and have a run-in with the Bannock tribe. In their first adventure, James and Alice must ultimately learn to protect each other and the environment as they uncover the evil plot of Billy "Bloody" Knuckles.

Author Deanna Neil thoroughly researched the book by consulting with Yellowstone historians, visiting the region and reading primary sources. Her story is inspired by real events and places.

REP President Martha Marks was one of those who reviewed this book before its publication. She provided the following recommendation, which is printed in the book: "This book reminded me of all the books I loved so much as a kid. Just wish it had been in print back then! Once it's published, I'll buy a dozen copies to give to the budding conservationists I know."

Others who reviewed the book favorably include National Wildlife Federation President Larry Schweiger, Natural Resources Defense Council President Frances Beinecke, and the Rev. Peter Illyn of Christians for Environmental Stewardship.

The Land of Curiosities is hardcover, 185 pages, written as an intermediate to young-adult novel for ages 8 and up. A special feature of the book is a 16-page section on Yellowstone history.

Right Wing, Wrong Bird
by the Rev. Joel Hunter

Dr. Joel C. Hunter—the senior pastor at Northland Church in Florida—believes that unless Christians can explain their values and their voting decisions in an intellectually credible way to those who disagree, they will not create understanding or make headway on the issues most important to them.

In Right Wing, Wrong Bird, Hunter forges a new path, taking a provocative look at how religion and politics have interacted in America, and giving civic-minded believers a balanced and biblically based approach to political involvement.

Dr. Hunter was one of the featured speakers at REP's 2007 Republican Environmental Leadership Conference. His talk was warmly received and provoked a lively discussion.

Dr. Hunter donated a case of his books to REP, but we only have a few copies left. Buy yours on closeout sale now!

Politics, Pollution and Pandas
by Russell E. Train

Russell E. Train, now chairman emeritus of the World Wildlife Fund and a member of REP's Honorary Board, has led a remarkable life in conservation and environmental politics. Though many of his contributions have been unsung, Train was the catalyst for many of the nation's most important positive environmental policies that remain with us today.

In the current political climate, where party divisions are so sharp and environmental concerns are so often shunted aside, Train's journey as a life-long Republican and an ardent conservationist is an inspiring story. Many of the important environmental policies that Train helped to devise and implement occurred during two Republican administrations, those of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. Train served as undersecretary of Interior early in Nixon's administration before becoming chairman of the president's Council on Environmental Quality (1970-1973). He then moved on to many accomplishments as head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from 1973 until 1978.

In the early years of the Carter administration, Train left government to become president of the World Wildlife Fund, in the U.S., where, for more than twenty-five years, he played a key role in developing that institution into the major conservation organization it is today.
